Congratulations to senior Cadet Simon Krauthamer:
2018 Marine Corps JROTC 3 Position Air Rifle National Champion On February 16-18, 2018, Cadet Krauthamer competed in, and won, the 2018 Marine Corps JROTC 3 Position Air Rifle (3 PAR) National Championships held in Anniston, Alabama. Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force JROTC cadets from around the United States competed in a national qualifying match for the opportunity to represent their state and school in this annual national competition. From September 25 through December 14, 2017, over 7000 cadets representing the four JROTC branches competed in this national match, with just over 600 qualifying to compete in their respective service’s championship. Of the over 1500 Marine Corps JROTC cadets that participated, the top 109 qualified for the Marine Corps JROTC championship. Simon will next compete in the JROTC Inter-Service National Championship in March 2018 held at Camp Perry, Ohio. The Inter-Service Championship brings together Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force qualifiers to determine the best overall individuals and teams in the nation, approximately 150-175 competitors will qualify. Cadet Krauthamer’s score in the Marine Corps JROTC Championship was the second highest score nationally among all four JROTC service championships. Simon has represented Ardrey Kell High School and North Carolina in the JROTC National Championships for the past 3 years. This achievement is the culmination of nearly 5 years of competitive marksmanship for Cadet Krauthamer. In 2017 Simon finished 16th in the Marine Corps JROTC National Championship and 23rd in the Inter-Service Championship. He has been on the Ardrey Kell Rifle Team since freshman year, as well as the Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club Junior Rifle Team since 8th grade. After graduation he will be attending Virginia Military Institute where he plans on competing for a spot on their NCAA Divison 1 Rifle Team.
