Congratulations to senior Cadet Simon Krauthamer:
2018 Marine Corps JROTC 3 Position Air Rifle National Champion On February 16-18, 2018, Cadet Krauthamer competed in, and won, the 2018 Marine Corps JROTC 3 Position Air Rifle (3 PAR) National Championships held in Anniston, Alabama. Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force JROTC cadets from around the United States competed in a national qualifying match for the opportunity to represent their state and school in this annual national competition. From September 25 through December 14, 2017, over 7000 cadets representing the four JROTC branches competed in this national match, with just over 600 qualifying to compete in their respective service’s championship. Of the over 1500 Marine Corps JROTC cadets that participated, the top 109 qualified for the Marine Corps JROTC championship. Simon will next compete in the JROTC Inter-Service National Championship in March 2018 held at Camp Perry, Ohio. The Inter-Service Championship brings together Marine Corps, Army, Navy and Air Force qualifiers to determine the best overall individuals and teams in the nation, approximately 150-175 competitors will qualify. Cadet Krauthamer’s score in the Marine Corps JROTC Championship was the second highest score nationally among all four JROTC service championships. Simon has represented Ardrey Kell High School and North Carolina in the JROTC National Championships for the past 3 years. This achievement is the culmination of nearly 5 years of competitive marksmanship for Cadet Krauthamer. In 2017 Simon finished 16th in the Marine Corps JROTC National Championship and 23rd in the Inter-Service Championship. He has been on the Ardrey Kell Rifle Team since freshman year, as well as the Charlotte Rifle and Pistol Club Junior Rifle Team since 8th grade. After graduation he will be attending Virginia Military Institute where he plans on competing for a spot on their NCAA Divison 1 Rifle Team.
We are planning on taking a maximum of 30 cadets on an orientation visit to the Norfolk, Virginia area to visit several facilities from 13-16 December 2017. These facilities are Naval Station Norfolk, Amphibious Base Little Creek and Naval Air Station Oceana. Only those cadets in good standing with the unit may attend; at a minimum this requires that they have no suspensions, failing none of their classes, a "C" average in MCJROTC and that their teachers sign off for each of their classes to participate on this trip. The group will depart Ardrey Kell High School by charter bus at approximately 2:00 pm on Wednesday 13 December 2017 and return on Saturday 16 December 2017. During the trip the cadets will participate in physical training activities, hands on training of a LCAC simulator, receiving briefs from Marine and Navy personnel on amphibious capabilities, static displays of this equipment, a Navy submarine tour with briefs of the ships capabilities during the tour, hands on training of a Navy damage control and ship handling simulator, briefs and tours of a Navy F-18 and a Marine V-22 squadron along with simulator time for the cadets for these aircraft along with static displays of the actual aircraft. The cadets will stay on Naval Station Norfolk during this trip at the Sea Cadet Barracks with males and females separated within designated areas of this barracks while having adult male and female chaperones supervising the cadet behavior. Thank you to the cadets and volunteers who helped make our first Adopt-A-Highway cleanup of the 2017-18 school year a success. For those who do not know, we have adopted a large section of Ardrey Kell Road and plan on additional cleanup/community service opportunities throughout the year. UPDATE 01: Our cadets arrived safely at Parris Island at 9:30 pm on 4/26/2017. Stay tuned for more updates as we get them. Our May monthly AK Marine Corps JROTC Boosters Club meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, 05/03/2017 in Major Ratliff's classroom. Everyone is welcome and highly encouraged to attend this (and our other!) Booster Club meetings, as it is your support that helps make what we do possible. Among the items on this month’s agenda will be nominations for the 2017-2018 executive board, which include: Vice President: Conducts meetings in absence of President; reviews bank account reconciliations; assist committee chairs as needed.
Secretary: Takes meeting notes and prepares minutes for all meetings (Board and the all-inclusive club meetings) and presents them at the next meeting. Delivers the minutes to the Communications Chair so that they can then post to the website and email to all club members.
Treasurer: Prepares deposits and checks; maintains financial records, comparing actuals to budget; provides monthly reports; prepares tax filings
Hospitality: Assesses needs and plans food, beverages; setup and clean-up for all appropriate events
Fund Raising: Oversees major efforts of ongoing brick courtyard project and other fund raising initiatives throughout the year.
Communications: Maintains the website and prepares/sends email communications to the Board and the entire membership as required throughout the year. Board positions require 1-2 meetings per month for most months of the school year. Also, these positions are a great way to stay on top of all the things regarding the JROTC program. Congratulations to Cadet Simon Krauthamer for placing 16th overall in the MCJROTC Service Championships in Las Vegas. 1500 MCJROTC Cadets nationwide competed in the national postal competition and individual state championships to qualify for this event.
His score and placing qualify him for the National JROTC InterService Championships in Anniston. Alabama on March 23-25, where he will be competing against the top 155 cadets from across the country representing Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine JROTC programs. Simon is 1 of 11 Cadets, from all programs, representing North Carolina in the 2017 National JROTC InterService Championships. We wish him luck.
